Making A Meal At A Food Truck Frenzy

So I look forward to Wednesdays.  Partly because I am only in the office in the morning, but mainly because Wednesday is Hermitage Food Truck Frenzy Day!  Jim and I typically get there early and stick around for around an hour or more.  And we enjoy seeing all the regulars come through.  And I have to say that there are quite a few regulars every single week.

The last two weeks, Jim has brought his tent.  And it is so nice.  Luckily around the 11 AM hour, it hasn’t been unreasonable temperature wise.  So he gets the tent up and the black asphalt stays cool then.  We setup our little 2 person table and our chairs.  Jim turns on his Spotify through his car radio.  And we are good to go get some Food Truck food!

Today, the trucks were DegThai, Dixie Belle’s Cupcakes, Hoss’ Loaded Burgers, and Wrapper’s Delight.  Now, I have eaten from every truck.  So I couldn’t exactly try a new truck!  However, I always want to find something new about every visit to a food truck.  So I will look for that menu item that I have not had before.  Today, I did that.  But I also added another layer to the equation.  I made my meal from multiple food trucks!  I got the Buffalo Chicken Wrap from Wrapper’s Delight.  I had a large Blackened Spice Fries from Hoss’ Loaded Burgers.  And I sipped on some Thai Tea from DegThai.  I was super happy that I had the Thai Tea.  If you are eating anything with spice, you NEED to have a Thai Tea nearby!  It immediately cools the palatte.  I am so totally addicted to DegThai’s Thai Tea.

As my something new, I got “The Big Punisher” from Wrapper’s Delight.  It is their dessert wrap with bananas, peanut butter, chocolate, and all those sweet things that little girls are made of!!!  I ran into one of the Wednesday regulars, Mark, who had ordered the Big Punisher first and let me see what it looked like.  And I was sold.  He also had one of Wrapper’s Delights’ breakfast wraps.  I had a little bit of food envy when I saw it.  I have to admit!  And the Big Punisher…demolished it!!!  The honey really stood out for me.  In some dishes the honey can get lost, but despite all the goodness in this wrap, the honey flavor really came through.  I enjoyed that sweetness.  The bananas was soft but not mushy.  The peanut butter and chocolate was gooey.  And everything melded together well in this.  I liked having the whipped cream on the side to scoop up with the wrap.  Nice touch!  And the whipped cream wasn’t overly sweetened either which was also a pleasant surprise.

There are several food trucks coming to Donelson on Thursday and Friday.  Peanut Butter Paradise and Music City Cravings will be at Two Rivers Corporate Centre on Thursday.  And then the Fifty Forward on the corner of Donelson Pike/Lebanon Road is hosting 7 different trucks on Friday.  You can GUARANTEE I’ll be all up in that action!!!!!  Music City Cravings is going to be introducing a new “BeefLT” pizza.  I’ve been hearing really amazing things about Jonbalaya’s Prime Rib Po’ Boy!  Plus I’ve been dying to try The Bean and Tater truck.  And I still have not tried The Latin Wagon.  So there will definitely be some new food truck experiences for me on Friday!  So stay tuned to see what I tried!!!  Don’t you just love trying new things?

I know I say this a lot, but I hope you will try a different truck or a new menu item next time you are out at the trucks.  You could miss out on a lot of yumminess if you don’t.  From Baos to Banh Mis to Vegan Wraps to Hot Chicken Biscuits to Muffalettas…I could go on and on.  Try something that you can’t make at home!!!!  Let the trucks pleasantly surprise you.

Well, I hope to see you all at the trucks this weekend.  It’s gonna be uber hot, but that won’t keep the trucks home!  And that means we shouldn’t stay home either!

    Glad you decided on the Big Punisher. It was my second time for one, and even though I wound up completely stuffed after the Biggie Smalls breakfast wrap and this, it was well worth it. For my money, it’s the best dessert I’ve had at a food truck. Of course, there’s still lots to try, so maybe I should add a “so far” to that.

    Looking forward to the Fifty Forward today. Like you, I’ve been wanting to try Jonbalya’s and Bean & Tater.
