48 Hours Away From Inaugural Nashville Street Food Awards

In a mere 48 hours, Centennial Park is going to a bustling mecca for food truck junkies like myself.  The Nashville Food Truck Association is bringing the Inaugural Nashville Street Food Awards from 11 AM to 6 PM on Saturday, September 1st.  Not only that, but it coincides with the start of the Fall Season of Musician’s Corner.

Similar to BBQ Competitions, the over 2 dozen food trucks will have designated times to turn in food for blind judging in specific categories.  And yes, I get to be a judge for a few of the categories (not all).  And I am agog over it!  I can’t wait to find out which categories I get to judge!  The categories include:

  • Best Burger
  • Best BBQ
  • Best Dessert
  • Best Hot Nashville
  • Best Vegetarian
  • Best Taco
  • Best Deep Fried
  • Best Drink
  • Best Sandwich
  • Best of the Best (Winner of Most Award Categories)

There will also be the “Second Harvest People’s Choice Award”.  After sampling from as many trucks as your belly can handle, Second Harvest will have a tent setup where you can make a donation which counts as your vote for your favorite truck.  The food truck who garners the most Second Harvest donations will be the “Second Harvest People’s Choice Award Winner”!

I’ve run into and talked with many food truck owners over the last week.  Most were in deep contemplation over which categories they were going to enter and what they were going to create for those categories.  It’s going to be amazing to see what the trucks come up with!  I, for one, cannot wait.  I hope that even though I’m only judging 3 categories, I can still be in the judges tent to see the other judging take place.

Despite the competition side, the food trucks are still out there to serve us, the super lucky people of Nashville!  AND, they will be serving smaller portions of their food.  This will allow you to try more gourmet eats from more trucks than you might otherwise have been able to.  So be prepared to come out and try many new flavors!!  I really hope that you will take this as your opportunity to try foods you have never heard of!  I’ve had some really great firsts from food trucks (Banh Mis to Baos to Choripan to Galbi and more).  Take this opportunity to be adventurous!  They will all be in one place!  So no searching for where a truck will be!!!!

One of the neatest things about this event is that it is also the kickoff to the fall season of Musician’s Corner.  Musician’s Corner is a free event every Saturday from 3 PM – 6 PM from September 1st through October 27th featuring some amazing local and regional artists.  The Beer and Wine Garden Happy Hour begins at 2 with the Pre-Show Acoustic set by Jon Troast starting at 2:30.  There will be activities for the Kids in the “Kidsville Activities” area.  There will also be a “Dog of the Day” from 3 PM – 6 PM.  The main stage will feature The Blind Boys of Alabama, Karen Elson, A Nashville Symphony Quartet and Jeremy Lister.  The Lightning 100 Acoustic Stage will feature Anthony Snape, The Carmonas, and Chelsea Gill.  So there will be bookoodles of amazing music happening while you enjoy your gourmet eats!!!

You really don’t want to miss this event.  It is not a common occurrence to have nearly every active food truck in one location.  I forgot to mention that there will be some new trucks making their debut at the Nashville Street Food Awards.  If you have ever wanted to try a truck, but they have not been near you, THIS. IS. YOUR. CHANCE!  Then you can become a food truck stalker much like myself!

Here is a list of the trucks that are expected to be in action this Saturday (in alphabetical order):

  • Beach Bums Juice Bar
  • Biscuit Love
  • Blue Monkey Shaved Ice
  • DegThai
  • Delta Bound
  • Dixie Belle’s Cupcakes
  • The Grilled Cheeserie
  • Hit and Miss Ice Cream
  • Hoss’ Loaded Burgers
  • Jonbalaya Catering
  • Ken’s Hot Spot
  • The Latin Wagon
  • The Love Shack
  • Mere Bulles
  • Moovers & Shakers
  • Peanut Butter Paradise
  • Retro Sno
  • Riff’s Fine Street Food
  • Smoke Et Al
  • Sum Yum Yum
  • Terra Delicious
  • The Waffle Boss
  • Wrapper’s Delight
  • Yayo’s OMG

I mean are you for serious?  Tell me you aren’t already planning how you will work in eating from every truck (especially since they will have smaller bites available!!!).

I will definitely be there Saturday and I hope to run into you!!!  I hope you will take plenty of pictures.  Make sure to tag me (@FTJ_Julie) on Twitter.  That way, I can retweet you and let the rest of Nashville know what they are missing out on!

And finally, I urge you again, TRY SOMETHING NEW!!!  I cannot say it enough!!!!

See you all on Saturday!!!
