Some Things We Are Working On…

Here are a few upcoming items I’m working working:

  • We recently took a trip to Chattanooga and visited Famous Nater’s food truck.  When you look at the food truck scene here in Nashville and how it has evolved and grown in 2 years, the difference versus the growth of the scene in Chattanooga is substantial!  I’ll discuss a little about that as well as our experience at the Famous Nater’s truck in Chattanooga and the best spot to find the trucks!
  • We love fellow food truck bloggers!  There is a food truck blogger out there who blogs from a different perspective than I do.  He aims his blog and podcast at the food truck owner more than the consumer.  So I’d love to give him a shout out as well as a look at some of the great food bloggers here in Nashville.
  • OUR BOOK!  The book launch is less than 2 weeks away at Parnassus!  I’m excited and nervous and cannot wait to see you all out!  We will have food truck samples from Biscuit Love, Doughworks, The Rolling Feast, and Moovers & Shakers!!

One last thing, we want to thank Nashville Lifestyles (Taylor Pittman) and The Murfreesboro Post (Travis Swann) for their reviews and write ups.  We are in the July issue of Nashville Lifestyles!  So we hope you will pick that up!  And CLICK HERE for the awesome write up by Travis!  Thank you again!!!!

We cannot wait for you to see and read and cook from the book!  But more than that…I’ll see you all at the trucks!!!

Biscuit Love Sets Their Roots In The Gulch!

For the last several months, if you wanted some of the awesomeness that is Biscuit Love, you had only 2 spots you could go to: Franklin Farmer’s Market on Saturdays and White’s Mercantile on Sundays.  And you had to go early because they sell out every weekend and they typically sell out early!

Here’s some good news.  Great news in fact!  Coming soon to the Gulch in the fall, Biscuit Love, A Brunch Place Born In The South will open.  Karl and Sarah Worley are taking Biscuit Love and setting their roots in a brick and mortar establishment.  So now Nashville can get their Biscuit Love fix any day of the week!

Yes, the biscuits will still be the star, but they are expanding their menu to include some really awesome additions.  From a grab and go pastry counter to a weekend late-night menu to “John’s Ham Bar” which will highlight country ham from throughout the region with beaten biscuits to brunch cocktails and craft beer!  Just as on the truck, the restaurant will focus on fresh and locally sourced ingredients.

The location will be located at 316 11th Avenue South in the Gulch right next to Bar Louie.  I believe this is the space where Kocktails & Kouture used to be.  So they will be right in the heart of the Gulch!

Biscuit Love is on Twitter or Instagram: @BiscuitLoveNash.  Make sure to follow them to follow the progress of the restaurant!  If you cannot wait until the restaurant opening, you can always get your Biscuit Love fix at their regular weekend spots!!

Congratulations to our friends, Karl and Sarah Worley!  We cannot wait to visit the restaurant…time and time again!!!!

“Spring Into Street Food” Extends to “Summer Of Street Food”

Lucky lucky downtown!!!!

Starting back in March as “Spring Into Street Food,” the Nashville Food Truck Association brought the bevy of food truck lineups to downtown every other Thursday.  Events have gone so well, that “Spring Into Street Food” is now extending to “Summer of Street Food!”

June 12th and 27th

July 10th and 24th

August 7th and 21st

11 AM – 2 PM

Deaderick Street From 3rd/4th Avenues

Each date will have a variety of trucks.  Nearly 20 trucks will be on hand each date!!!!!  The line ups will change, but there’s a minimum of 31 different trucks that will be involved throughout the summer!

So if on these dates you can take a long lunch and head downtown to Nashville, or if you live or work in downtown Nashville, go ahead and pencil in the dates above.

Couple of tips to help you out:

Make sure to grab a group of friends. If you have someone with similar tastes as you, you can split food and then order from more trucks and get more food!!!!!

ALWAYS SAVE ROOM FOR DESSERT!  Or, grab some dessert for later when you are back at your desk!!!

While the trucks do accept all the major plastic, carrying cash can help speed up the lines.

If you are gonna take food back to your office, I suggest grabbing one of your reuseable grocery sacks.  It will help you carry lots of food without the juggling!!!!!

This will also be a great opportunity for you to check out some of the many trucks that are featured in our upcoming book, Nashville Food Trucks: Stories & Recipes from the Road!!!  The book comes out in 2 weeks on June 17th!  So you will have a healthy dose of dates to check out the trucks from the book!!!

I might myself have to take a long lunch to head downtown for one of these dates! I do love me a good food truck frenzy!!!!!!

Remember! Always try something new!  And I’ll see you at the trucks!!!

What A 2 Years It’s Been!

On May 24th, 2012, I started up this little idea I had about a food truck blog.  Two years later, the blog has now spawned a book which will be released next month on June 17th.

I cannot believe all the wonderful things that have happened in the last 2 years and all the wonderful people I have met.  I have made so many friends.  People who would not have been in my life without this blog, but people who I am truly blessed to know and call my friends.

The food trucks have also made my professional life better since I started scheduling them to come serve on our properties.  Our tenants are so happy that I get weekly feedback from people requesting trucks or letting me know that they loved the truck that was there and to try to schedule it again soon.  And minus one incident, my boss is finally seeing the benefit of the food trucks as tenant relations.  It’s also a little selfish of me.  I bring the food trucks close to me so that I can eat from them!  But making the tenants happy on the side is also a plus!  Ha!

While I sometimes struggle with being able to keep up with the locations page as much as I want, I still love and have a passion for the Nashville food truck scene.  As long as I have this passion, I will continue to run this blog.  And seeing as I love food, I don’t see this train stopping anytime soon!

I’m so excited that the book is coming out so close to the 2 year birthday for NashvilleFoodTruckJunkie.com.  What a way to celebrate.  I hope that you all will come out to one of the book signing events that we have scheduled.  We will have small bites from the trucks and many of the food truck owners will be present so you can actually get a chance to chat with them outside the truck as well!

Here is the current schedule for book signing events:

Saturday, July 12 – 2 PM – Parnassus Books: 3900 Hillsboro Pike – Doughworks, Biscuit Love, and The Rolling Feast will all be providing some samples.  We will also do a Q & A as well.  You can go HERE to view more information on the event and to pre-order a copy of the book.

Saturday, July 26 – 1 PM – Barnes & Noble Cool Springs: 1701 Mallory Lane

Thursday, August 21 – 5 – 8 PM – Picture This Gallery “Third Thursday Event”: 4674 Lebanon Pike – I am so honored to be the featured artist for the month of August.  I will be signing books and we will have food truck bites at this event as well.  When we get those trucks lined up, we will let you know!

I owe a huge thanks not only to all the food truck owners who allowed me into their lives for an hour or two to meet with me, but to all of Middle Tennessee.  Without your visits to the food trucks, these last 2 years might not have happened.  If you don’t get as excited about food trucks as you have these last 2 years, well, there’s no reason for this blog.  But luckily, Nashville supports small local business.  And food trucks are definitely small and local.  Thank you for making the food truck scene in Nashville be one of the most attractive food trucks scenes in the nation!

I’m planning on some exciting stuff over the next year, doing inaugural “Best Ofs”, doing gift certificate give aways, Oh, and we WILL be giving away a copy or two of the book!!!  So make sure to stay tuned!

We will be celebrating our 2nd birthday by going to the HUGE food truck event at Centennial Park in conjunction with Musician’s Corner tomorrow.  Nearly 30 food trucks in one place?  Just go!  We’ll see you there!!!  Happy Food Trucking!!!!

As I always like to say: Make sure to try something new and I’ll see you at the trucks!!!!

Nashville Food Trucks + Nashville Farmer’s Market = Perfect Saturday!

The Nashville Food Truck Association (NFTA) and the Nashville Farmer’s Market are joining forces to bring the inaugural “Market Takeover” event scheduled for THIS Saturday, April 26th.  There are 2 divisions of partying that will occur on Saturday.

From 6 AM – 11 PM, Riffs Fine Street Food will be catering a brunch as they host a viewing party for the Country Music Marathon.  While this is a free event, they will also have VIP tickets available for $50 (+ fees) that include the brunch, 2 drink tickets, and dedicated seating for marathon viewing!  You can purchase the tickets: CLICK HERE!  There will be food truck goodies, beer, wine, and nonalcoholic drinks for purchase and a visit from Nashville Mayor, Karl Dean.

From Noon – 6 PM, is when the NFTA Market Takeover begins.  This again is a free event and open to the public.  Live music, beverages and seasonal menu items from some of the best food trucks in Nashville.  Nashville Farmer’s Market’s Laraw Wilson will unveil a secret ingredient via internet video.  The trucks must incorporate that ingredient into their existing menus.  Food truck chefs will need to respond with photos and videos showing how they used that secret ingredient.  Attendees can follow the action live on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram using the hashtag #markettakeover.

The public also has a chance to win! All you have to do is post pictures of you at the Market Take Over at the trucks, eating food, but using the hashtag #markettakeover.  A panel of judges will chose their favorite fan photos.

At 3:30 PM, members of the local media will compete in a street food contest in the Grow Local Kitchen preparing ingredients supplied by the food trucks and a panel of food truck chefs will judge the dishes.

The list of trucks involved in Saturday’s event (List as of April 18th):

  • Bacon Nation
  • Delta Bound
